Sixteen runners gathered on the Thon stage at about 8 p.m. after completing a 135-mile relay from the Hershey Medical Center to the Bryce Jordan Center.

The runners, all part of Thon Express, brought hundreds of letters from Four Diamonds families who were unable to make it to Thon because their children are currently undergoing treatment.

Runners departed from Hershey last night at about 6 p.m. and completed the run in less than 24 hours, arriving in State College at about 3:30 p.m. today.

Hank Angus, founder of Thon Express, said he started the event to give back to the Four Diamonds Fund for all it does for families.

“We’re just doing what we feel we have to do to help the kids,” Angus, a Four Diamonds father, said.

Runners for the event include Thon alumni, Four Diamonds parents and patients, Angus said.

“That’s what makes the event special,” he said.
