Why September 15?
The Hope express now entering its 7th year wanted to have a date that signified the significance of what our charity is all about. The founders, Connie and Hank Angus felt that Sept 15th was the perfect day because it was on Sept 15th ,2004 that their son Gabriel was diagnosed with leukemia. To date the Hope Express has raised more than $150,000 for the Four Diamonds Fund in Hershey, Pa.
How do I raise money for the Hope Express?
Each participant will have a $25 registration fee which can be donated online once a team is registered with us. Anyone wanting to make a donation of $25 to a particular team can do so there as well.
How can I form my own team?
Email VirtualHE@thehopeexpress.org to register a team. We will get you set up. Get your friends and family, then come up with a plan on how you can cover 135 miles as a team – this is the distance the Hope Express team runs every Feb going from the Hershey Medical Center to Penn State/THON. Team captains decide how to accomplish these miles based on their participants. It can be 135 runners each running/walking 1 mile or 14 runners each running ten miles – like the regular Hope Express team – or any combination between these examples. We are relying on each team captain to make each individual event both unique and successful.
It is a sad reality that cancer cannot be cured without dollars. The Hope Express’s mission is to increase awareness in those places where we run. With this virtual run, that can be anywhere. The team that raises the most money with a minimum of $2500.00 will have a surprise participant. Hank Angus one of the co-founders will come to your location on Sept 15th to be with your team (anywhere in the continental 48 states).
Safety needs to be of the utmost concern. Captains need to have their virtual runs where there is no danger. It could be done at a fitness center on treadmills or an indoor or outdoor track. Running trails are also a good choice.
If you would like to start a team, please email : VirtualHE@thehopeexpress.org and we will start the process and get you set up online!
The day of the run take lots of pictures. You can post your pictures and comments on the Hope Express facebook page. Good luck Everyone.
